Independent auto-glass installers are hailing the passage of a bill that prohibits car-insurance agencies from directing clients toward preferred glass vendors. The legislation, which passed last year in the state House and unanimously passed the Senate on Thursday, could stop what glass installers call an unfair practice that has threatened their businesses in recent years.

The Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has issued a clarification to the safety regulations relating to a truck’s window visibility that now allows the use of compliant window films on big rigs’ sidelites, according to information from the International Window Film Association (IWFA).

Financial companies are hiring again, and it’s no wonder because fewer banks are closing, the stock market is rising, credit-card use has turned upward and insurers are seeing steady demand. State Farm, which has a large operations center in Tempe, expects to add 3,000 or so positions nationally in 2012, including an unknown number in metro Phoenix, says spokesman Phil Supple.

Utah Windshield Repair Shop Owner to Pay $1,500 to State Related to Fraud Charges

A Utah windshield repair shop owner who was charged with identity fraud and fraudulent insurance acts in April has agreed to pay $549.33 to the state’s insurance fraud division, along with $1,000 restitution to the state for the costs of the investigation, according to a representative of the 2nd District Court-Farmington Department.
