Motion to Stay Denied and Joint Case Management Statement Filed in Safelite Overtime Pay Lawsuit

Safelite’s motion to stay in the overtime pay lawsuit filed by a former technician has been denied by the courts. Demetriot Lewis, the former technician, and Safelite have filed a joint case management statement in response to an order from the court.

Former Employee Voluntarily Dismisses Discrimination Suit Against Safelite

The former Safelite employee who was suing the company for discrimination has filed a joint stipulation for dismissal. Safelite had denied the allegations made by a former Indiana technician, Michael Hill, who claimed his employment was wrongfully terminated due to his sex after an incident involving a damaged dashboard and a warranty issue. Hill claimed he was let go for not providing a warranty note to the customer and for not going back to fix the problem.

Safelite Technician to File Motion to Stay in Overtime Pay Suit

A California auto glass technician, Demetriot Lewis, who worked for Safelite for approximately eight months in 2010 intends to file a joint motion to stay in his class action suit against the company alleging that he is owed overtime pay for hours not counted in his work day.

Industry Legislation Sparks Opposition from Insurance Association and Safelite

Legislation in two states has caused an insurance association and auto glass company Safelite to respond with statements of opposition. The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) has released a statement claiming that the South Carolina anti-steering bill, HB 4042, is “inconvenient” and could “raise costs for consumers.” The bill would prohibit TPAs that also have retail divisions, or that have 10 percent ownership or more in an auto glass business, to refer policyholders’ glass claims to itself or to use information obtained through its work as a TPA to solicit business.

Windshield Repair Supplier Sends Letter to Customers About Safelite Resin

Surface Dynamix sent a letter to its customers late last week alleging that Safelite’s claims about its windshield repair resin are “misleading and deceptive.” In the letter signed by Mike Boyle of Surface Dynamix states that the “failure to release specifics regarding the lab used and competitor products leave their results suspect.”
