As the editorial editor of his school newspaper and an active volunteer in causes ranging from Muscular Dystrophy Association to Junior Achievement, Mark Liston had hoped to become a grade school teacher when he graduated from West High School in 1972. He liked the franchising industry and stayed with it, working with several more companies before joining the Glass Doctor in 2010 as vice president of operations. The auto glass repair and replacement franchising group has more than 300 locations in Canada and the U.S.; in December, he was named president.

Glass Doctor has become a Cobalt Sponsor of Auto Glass Week 2012, which will be held September 20-22, 2012 in Louisville, Ky. The Exhibition/Extravaganza, including the repair and replacement competitions will be held September 21-22, 2012.

As the Auto Glass Week event in Louisville, Ky., approaches many companies are preparing technicians for the auto glass repair and replacement competitions. Glass Doctor is holding four preliminary feeder competitions across the company to ultimately choose two technicians to represent the company in the Pilkington Clear Advantage Auto Glass Technician Olympics taking place September 21-22, 2012 in Louisville, Ky.

Glass Doctor announced plans to open 30 new franchise locations in 2012. The company has currently been shopping locations in large cities including Boston, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.

January 17 was a big day for the employees of The Dywer Group in Waco, Texas — the parent company of Glass Doctor – and for their CEO and chairwoman Dina Dwyer-Owens. About 1,200 people showed up that day at the Baylor University in Waco, to see the private screening of CBS’ reality show, “Undercover Boss,” featuring Dwyer-Owens.

Local insurance agents learned the importance of safe windshield installations during continuing education (CE) training by the Glass Doctor of Minneapolis franchise, owned by Bryce Stahlke, last week. CE class credits are required for agents to keep their licenses.

“Saturday is normally not that busy, but this Saturday was incredible and today we will do way more business than we did last year and I expect the rest of the week to pan out that way,” says Michael Eby, owner of Glass Doctor of St. Louis, located about ten miles from the storm damage.
