Guardian Industries Corp. plans to invest nearly $55 million in rebuilding one of the glass-making lines at its Carleton plant, a move that should preserve about 150 jobs, according to company officials.

The Auto Glass Safety Council (formerly the AGRSS Council Inc.) is inviting members of the auto glass community to donate items of value to be auctioned off at the Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) Silent Auction at Auto Glass Week. The nation’s biggest insurance companies charge wildly different prices to similar, or even the same, drivers in the same city, a new study shows. In Chicago, as well as 14 other cities, “good” drivers-with no accidents or moving violations-are quoted what the Consumer Federation of America says are high auto insurance rates for the minimum liability coverage required by states.

Christina Denny, 44, a former employee of Lafayette, Ind.-based Lafayette Glass Co., turned herself in to Tippecanoe County Jail on an arrest warrant charging her with ten felony counts last week related to embezzlement, according to police records. Denny is alleged to have stolen more than $100,000. Lafayette Glass Co.

Starting Sept. 1, Louisiana drivers will have the option of having their vehicles inspected annually or once every two years. The new law gives drivers an option when they bring their vehicles in for inspection – pay $10 for the standard one-year inspection sticker, or pay $20 and get a sticker that’s good for two years.
